6 Questions to Ask Your Rhinoplasty Surgeon

Cosmetic surgery has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years, giving patients the opportunity to experience more subtle and aesthetically appealing results. However, no matter how much advancement take place, a surgeon’s experience and skills still play an integral role in the results of your surgery.

Your nose is one of the most prominent features on your face so choosing a surgeon who can provide you with safe and effective results is a must. Unfortunately, many surgeons lack the training and experience necessary to successfully perform a procedure as complex as rhinoplasty.
It’s important to take your time when choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon and a big part of this process is asking the right questions.

Key Questions to Ask Your Rhinoplasty Surgeon

1. What qualifications do you have?
Reputable surgeons generally display their qualifications and credentials online, allowing you to see exactly where they received their education and training. If there is very little information available on a surgeon’s website, consider it a red flag. Your rhinoplasty surgeon should be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and have received the necessary training in facial surgery for them to be considered for your surgery.

2. How many rhinoplasties have you performed?
Your surgeon should always be able to tell you how many nose jobs they have performed, with the most experienced surgeons having performed hundreds, if not thousands. Choose a surgeon who has performed a sizeable amount of rhinoplasties because this means they have developed excellent techniques and methods that you can benefit from.

3. Do you have a before and after gallery I can see?
Along with gathering nose job surgery information, it’s also vital that you take a look through some before and after shots of past surgeries. These should be photos of actual patients and not stock photos because this will give you a good idea of your surgeon’s capabilities.

4. Do you have any testimonials I can read through?
When other patients are willing to publically recommend a surgeon, it already says a lot about their expertise and skills. If a surgeon isn’t willing to provide you with any testimonials, it means he doesn’t have any to show you.

5. Are you able to provide me with this nose shape?
If you have a particular nose shape in mind, bring a few photos along to your consultation so that you can find out whether your surgeon will be able to provide you with the results you are hoping for. It is still important to remember that a surgeon will never be able to replicate someone else’s nose but a skilled surgeon can make it look very similar – provided the nose would complement your face that is.

6. What will my procedure cost?
If a surgeon is quoting you a price that is much lower than the other surgeons you have consulted with, consider it a red flag. Remember, you get what you pay for so don’t choose a surgeon based on price alone or you may end up paying a second surgeon to fix the mistakes of the first.
