Getting Rid of Cracked Heels with Natural Remedies

The skin can become cracked in any area of the body, but the one along the web of toes and around the heels is the most prone to these cracks. Cracked heels often occur because of dry skin and sometimes wearing backless shoes as well. Lack of attention towards the feet and neglect can often cause the problem to escalate. Not only are these heels unsightly, but are also highly painful. These cracks tend to deepen and will start bleeding over time. Therefore, this problems needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Rather than choosing any of the commercial foot treatments available, people can choose natural remedies for treating cracked heels in the comfort of their home.

Some of the home treatments that can be used for healing cracked heels are:

Mineral Oil Soak

Feet tend to get dry easily because they do not have any oil glands. Providing moisture to the feet before going to sleep is an easy way to prevent the issue of dry, cracked heels from arising. Prepare a foot bath by taking equal parts of mineral oil and lukewarm water and soak your feet in it. Hot water should not be used for this purpose as it will dry the skin even further. The feet should be soaked for about 10 minutes and the oil residue should be massaged onto them after taking them out. Cotton socks should be worn overnight to keep the moisture in.

Banana Pulp Foot Mask

The moisture content of bananas makes them an excellent remedy for dealing with cracked and dry heels. Smoother and softer skin can be achieved when a banana foot mask is applied to the feet and heels. Take a fork and use it for mashing a ripe banana. The pulp that’s formed should be applied to the feet. Lukewarm water should be used for washing off the pulp after it has been applied for 15 minutes. The pulp of half an avocado can also be added to the banana pulp for even better results.

Exfoliating Foot Scrub

An ideal foot treatment is a homemade foot scrub that gets rid of the thick and dry skin on the heel and moisturizes it. ½ cup of rice should be grinded until it has reached a coarse consistency. 2 tablespoons of honey should then be added to it. Create a paste-like consistency by adding apple cider vinegar to it. For 10 minutes, the feet should be soaked in lukewarm water. The scrub should be massaged onto the feet after they have been patted dry. The vinegar and rice are responsible for exfoliation and removing dry skin while the skin is moisturized by honey.

Foot Moisturizer

Take the juice of a lemon and mix 1 tablespoon of petroleum jelly in it. The feet should be soaked in lukewarm water before applying this mixture onto them. After the mixture has been applied, socks should be worn and left overnight. Cracked heels will start healing and the feet will become softer.
