Visit Your Dentist
Regular visits to your dentist for cleanings, X-rays, and general checkups can help keep your teeth healthy and strong. A professional dentist can fill any existing cavities and head off new ones from starting. You should get a cleaning at least twice a year, and have X-rays and a checkup done at least once a year.
Cut out Soda
If you drink soda, you’re doing a lot of harm to your teeth. Everyone knows that sugar is bad for your teeth, but the acidity of soda and the carbonation can also harm your teeth. Eliminating soda from your diet can do a lot for your teeth. If you still crave flavor in your water, try using one of the flavor enhancers that are on the market today in a variety of flavors, or add fresh fruit.
Don’t Brush Right after You Eat or Drink
When you eat or drink, the enamel on your teeth softens. If you brush immediately after eating or drinking while the enamel is soft, you can brush away the enamel, exposing the dentin beneath. This can cause cavities, tooth pain and sensitivity. Instead, allow at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking and brushing your teeth. Of course, if all you’re drinking is water, water does not have the same effect. If you’re worried about sugar sitting on your teeth until you can brush, you can swish some plain water in your mouth and spit it out.
