Balance and coordination are necessary in even some of the most basic everyday tasks. It is very important to make sure that your balance and coordination are good enough to be as productive as possible throughout your day. Here, we’ll look at a few different exercises that you can do to improve your balance and coordination so that you can be the best you that you can be.

Balancing on Your Hands and Knees

Get down on your hands and knees on a yoga mat or a folded towel or blanket. Reach your right hand out in front of you and reach your left leg out straight behind you. Be sure to keep your tummy muscles flexed to help you keep your balance. Now repeat alternating left and right.  Taking the time to increase your balance can help avoid personal injury.  Professionals know that personal injury is something everyone can work on. Practicing good health techniques, like working on your balance, is worth the time you put into it.

Balance Beam Exercises

You can make your own balance beam out of a row of bricks or a sturdy, slim piece of wood put between two bricks or anything that will keep the wood in place. Begin by stepping forward and backward along the beam that you’ve made. You may work your way up by balancing a bag of rice or beans on your head as you walk along the beam.

Hopscotch

You may think that hopscotch is just for kids, but it can prove to be extremely useful in improving balance and coordination in adults. Draw a hopscotch grid on the ground with chalk. You can make it as simple or complex as you like. Try a variety of combinations of jumping and hopping through the squares without touching any of the lines. Throw a beanbag or block into a square of your hopscotch grid or perhaps two and try to avoid those squares as you jump, giving yourself a challenge.

Heel-To-Toe Exercises

Use chalk to draw a line on the ground or use a piece of rope on the floor. With your feet situated heel to toe, have a friend throw a ball to you to catch while you keep your feet in the same position. If you don’t have a friend available, throw a ball against a wall to catch. Also try picking up one foot to stretch out and pick up an object to the side of you and then try to return to the original heel-to-toe position.

These are just a few exercises to help you enhance your balance and coordination capabilities. But if you’re really trying to improve your balance and coordination, these simple exercises can give you a great start.
