Stop performing hundreds of crunches each day
When it comes to shredded abs, people still have this bizarre notion that the way to get a six pack is to perform hundreds, if not thousands, of crunches each day.
That right there however, is complete nonsense.
Yes, crunches are a viable exercise for working the abdominal muscles, but you certainly don’t need to be doing several hundred or more, each day.
In fact, you don’t need to be doing crunches every day at all.
You wouldn’t perform 1000 bicep curls a day to try to build up your arms, so why apply the same principle to the abs?
Perform other ab exercises
While we’re on the subject of crunches, you do know that there are other exercises to target the abs, right?
Crunches are very good, but so too are exercises such as leg raises, hanging leg raises, and planks.
To build up any muscle group, variety is the spice of life so be sure to switch things up now and then and to try new things.
Get plenty of cardio
In terms of how to get shredded abs, the simple fact of the matter is that it doesn’t matter how many crunches, leg raises, bicycle crunches, planks, or mountain climbers you perform, if your body fat is too high your abs won’t be visible.
Sure, by working the abs you are building up the muscle, and you are burning a few calories, but not enough.
When it comes to the abs, you need to ensure that your body far percentages are low enough to reveal the muscles hidden under the layer of fat.
Cardio exercise is a great way of burning fat, so be sure to do plenty when working on revealing your abs.
Ideally you need to be at around 13% body fat or below, for the abs to become visible, so you do need to put the work in.
Clean up your diet
Fat loss via cardio is only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to targeting the abs.
You can’t out-train a bad diet, so to get those shredded abs summer-ready, you need to clean up your diet to get rid of any fat that may be lingering.
Cut out junk food, stop drinking sugary drinks, and eat plenty of fresh, healthy, wholesome food.
Vegetables and fruits are important for nutrients, as are lean proteins like meat and fish.
Energy should come from healthy fats and complex carbohydrates.
